The Exchange and Consumption of Clothing in Transnational Guyanese Hindu Communities
This book describes how Guyanese Hindus recreate Indian ethnic identity in contemporary Guyana and examines how Hindu traditions have been transformed in this multi-religious and multi-ethnic society. By illustrating the exchange and consumption of clothing, the book demonstrates that the practices of wearing and gifting clothes materialize and visualize relationships. The significant outward migration of Guyanese to North America has resulted in substantial international gift exchange and transnational rituals. Applying the concept of translocality, this book demonstrates that different localities continue to influence transnational networks and socio-cultural practices. It provides a study of migration that emphasizes various aspects of material and visual closeness, conceptualizing the notion of touch.

Transcultural Perspectives on the Narratives, Practices, and Representations of Tattooing
Tattoo Histories is an edited volume in which the contributors analyse and discuss the relevance of tattooing in the socio-cultural construction of bodies, boundaries, and identities, among both individuals and groups. Its interdisciplinary approach facilitates historical as well as contemporary perspectives. Rather than presenting a universal, essentialized history of tattooing, the volume’s objective is to focus on the entangled and transcultural histories, narratives, and practices related to tattoos. Contributions stem from various fields, including Archaeology, Art History, Classics, History, Linguistics, Media and Literary Studies, Social and Cultural Anthropology, and Sociology. They advance the current endeavour on the part of tattoo scholars to challenge Eurocentric and North American biases prevalent in much of tattoo research, by including various analyses based in, for example, Malaysia, Israel, East Africa, and India. The thematic focus is on the transformative capacity of tattoos and tattooing, for instance with regard to the social construction of bodies and subjectivity; the (re-)creation of social relationships through the definition of (non-)tattooed others; the formation and consolidation of group identities, traditions, and authenticity; and the conceptualization of art and its relevance to tattoo artist–tattooee relations.

Kontextwechsel und Bedeutung
Die Bedeutung von materiellen Artefakten, die in ihrer Form unverändert bleiben, kann sich durch räumliche Bezüge und durch den Wechsel des Kontexts verändern. Durch die räumliche Zuordnung inszeniert, können Artefakte inhaltlich festgelegt oder akzentuiert werden bzw. eine neue Bedeutung erlangen. Inhaltlich festgelegte Artefakte können durch ihre Aufstellung einen Raum, manchmal eine ganze Landschaft, neu und spezifisch deuten. Dabei lassen sich verschiedene Ausprägungen von Kontextwechseln finden. In diesem Band werden räumliche, historische, topographische und diskursive Kontextwechsel in Fallbeispielen analysiert und deren Bedeutungen und Überschneidungen kritisch reflektiert. So zeigen Artefakte der Antike, wie Bildwerke gezielt aus ihren urspr ünglichen Aufstellungskontexten herausgelöst und neu integriert worden sind, wobei dies entsprechend oder entgegen der älteren Verwendung geschehen konnte. Für die Neuzeit lässt sich zeigen, dass sich durch die Sammlung und die Anordnung von Artefakten Wissenssysteme etablieren und stabilisieren lassen. Hier schließen sich Fragen an: etwa nach der Verwendung von Gegenständen, die eigens für Reisen und den Transfer in andere kulturelle Bereiche geschaffen worden sind; oder nach der Rolle von durch Migrant:innen mitgebrachten Objekten als Identitätsmarker.
